Prof. Klaus Schwab,
Founder and Executive Chairman,
World Economic Forum,
Geneva, Switzerland
Dear Prof. Schwab,
I notice that you hope the 2015 WEF meeting will be a “starting point for a renaissance of global trust”. This is a noble aim, very important and timely. Thus, as the Founder of Globalisation for the Common Good Initiative (GCGI) I wish to endorse and support you in this aim.
Today in many parts of the world, the so-called market, and the values of consumerism, underpinned by the “Black Friday” values, have become increasingly dominant and are now seriously threatening our global future, both in terms of our care of the planet and in increasing societal rivarly and conflict.
In the process we have lost trust in everything. This is why I believe your aim is so important. In the global society in which we now all live, it is essential for our common survival and wellbeing that we build cultures of trust, being prepared to take risks for the common good.

'The Sharing Economy: Hapimag - A Business for the Common Good'
The text of a talk given at Hapimag, Albufeira on
Monday 5 January 2015
Prof. Kamran Mofid*
Founder, Globalisation for the Common Good Initiative (GCGI)
INTRODUCTION
In the last few decades, and especially from the late 1970s with the rise of Thatcherism and Reaganism, the business world has been under the spell of neo-liberalism, obsessed with economic reform, growth, an ever-expanding free-market liberalism, structural adjustment policies, privatisation, deregulation, profit maximisation, cost minimisation and the highest bonuses for short-term gains, amongst others.
This destructive ideology has led many business leaders to falsely believe that there is competition between being efficient and profitable, and being for the common good.
One of the businesses that have risen above this false ideology is Hapimag.

OIKONOMOS – a documentary about transforming economics education
This inspiring documentary shows how student groups are emerging to challenge the economics curriculum, changing how economics is taught in a world that is changing.
Since the deepening and continuing crash of the 2008, there has been an equally increasing, deepening and continuing criticism of economics and economists not dealing with societal issues, and ignoring the value of values in their teaching, a topic which I have extensively been writing about, of which some examples are noted below:
