This article is based on a revised invited plenary speech I delivered at an international conference at the University of Haifa, Israel, 28-31 January 1997. The Conference was to honour the Oslo Accords and to commemorate the life and work of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who was so tragically assassinated on 4 November 1995.
I remember the Conference and my time at Haifa very fondly, especially when I was invited to meet with Mrs. Leah Rabin and Prime Minister Shimon Peres. These moments I will remember affectionately.
I was then invited to visit Israel and Palestine again a few more times, where I was fortunate to meet with the youth, peace activists, politicians, religious, cultural and spiritual leaders, students, university academicians and more. I will never forget those meetings, conversations and dialogue, all full of joy, hope and positivity, that living side-by-side, in peace and harmony, as good neighbours, is indeed a real possibility now.
I recall very fondly my visits to the universities of Haifa, Hebron and Bethlehem , Israel Institute of Technology (Technion), Ministry of Industry, Trade and Economy (Jericho)- amongst others, sharing moments of hope, dreaming the dream, that soon there will be peace, justice and prosperity for all in the Middle East.
